Our 30th season opens with The Latin Effect and the warm, sunny sounds and rhythms of Latin American composers. Guitarist Stephen Aron joins the usual Guest House music makers George Pope, Cynthia Cioffari, Jane Berkner, and Eric Charnofsky in playing works by Astor Piazzolla, José Lezcano, Osvaldo Lacerda, Noelia Escalzo, and Samuel Zyman.
In an early celebration of International Women’s Day, we bring you Composing Women, with music composed by women, both present and past. CMSO favorite Cynthia Watson, oboe, will join Jane, George, Eric, and Cynthia in performing music by Madeleine Dring, Andrea Clearfield, Nancy Galbraith, Amanda Harberg, Adrienne Albert, Alyssa Morris, and Anna Amalia of Prussia.
Our season finale is Eastern European Emergence. We present a program with an eclectic range of works that include late Romanticism and music inspired by folk idioms and popular music of their day. We’ll enjoy the world premiere of a new work by Eric Charnofsky commissioned by CMSO for our 30th Season! We’re joined by Lisa Boyko, viola, and John McComb, double bass, for music that includes Erwin Schulhoff, Béla Bartók, Ferenc Farkas, Žilvinas Smalys, and Antonín Dvořák.
